A sandy beach break with a few rock patches, running west from the pier towards Sandsend. Small northerly swells favour a defined left, and an easterly swell can bring a hollow right beside the pier. The banks shift, and it’s best from low to three-quarter tide. It suits beginners and intermediates on anything from a soft-top to a shortboard. Offshore in a south-westerly. The pier end stays cleaner in a south-easterly, and the rip by the pier eases the paddle out but catches learners.
