Hang Ten

Privacy

Hang Ten doesn't know who you are. There are no accounts, adverts, analytics or cookies, on the site or in the iPhone and Android apps, and nothing about you is collected, sold or shared.

The site

The pages and the JSON are files, the same for everyone. They're served by Vercel, which, like any web host, logs each request, with its IP address and browser, to run and protect the service. The spot maps load their tiles from OpenFreeMap, which sees the same kind of request. The fonts come from hangten.app itself.

The spots you bookmark, for Your spots on the home page, and the tags you filter spots by are kept in your browser's local storage and never leave it. That's all the site keeps on your device, and only once you bookmark a spot or pick a tag. Clearing the site's data in your browser deletes them.

The apps

The iPhone and Android apps and their widgets read the same files from hangten.app. The spots you follow, and the last copy of each forecast, are kept on your phone and never leave it; deleting the app deletes them. The iPhone app's maps are Apple Maps, under Apple's privacy policy; the Android app's load their tiles from OpenFreeMap, as the site's do. Neither ever asks where you are.
