East Strand is a long sandy beach that turns into fast, hollow, powerful peaks on a bigger north to north-westerly swell, with a barrelling right by the Arcadia and another off the end of the promenade. It works at most tides, best at mid on the push, in a southerly wind. It suits intermediates, and beginners are better off at West Strand when it’s powerful. Permanent rips run along the Arcadia wall, by the stream and off the promenade.
