Long Strand

A long, south-west-facing sandy beach with banks at each end and more peaks between. A clean southerly groundswell and an offshore wind make it punchy and hollow, best from low to mid tide, but most days it’s onshore and messy, and it dumps on the shore at high tide. A shortboard wave for experienced surfers, mostly surfed at the east end by Kilkeran Lake. It needs a southerly to south-westerly swell and is offshore in a north-easterly. Always rippy, with rocks, and crowded at weekends.
