Compton Bay

The Isle of Wight’s most popular surf spot, a beach break over flat rock reef partly covered in sand. Fields has consistent mid-tide peaks, Middle Compton is more powerful, and Hanover Point is a mellow A-frame suited to longboards. The waves are fun and walling but get serious in big swells, so it suits intermediates more than beginners. It needs a south-westerly swell and a north-easterly wind, and is mostly flat in summer. Rocks, and rips when it’s big.
